“Art is the elimination of the unnecessary.”

In November 2008, Nick La of N. Design Studio spoke at the Future of Web Design conference in New York City about Finding Inspiration From Your Environment. The presentation shows how Nick La created 2 new illustrations and the process of making them (from sketch to final). Then he talks about where you can find inspiration and how he keeps his work/ideas fresh. At the end, Nick La presents two examples on how you can create original work from various inspiring sources.

Breadline Design Company Naming Machine
Quirky and funny. Breadline Design Company Naming Machine is inspired by the ludicrous number of design studios using coloured animals as company names. See what comes up for you.
I found this really cool sight called Anime Shout, http://www.animeshout.com/. There are advertisements, but the video stream is pretty good.
Axel Peemoeller Design website’s design is very intriguing. The site construction allows the user to click and drag the elements of the website, rearranging them as you see fit. At first it seemed confusing, but the site’s interactive design is playful and it pulls you in to try and discover all the different layers of content.
Axel Peemoeller is an award winning designer, currently living in Hamburg, Germany. He has designed for “way-finding systems, books, brochures, magazines, annuals, icons, typefaces, corporate identities, photo shootings, environmental graphics, posters, retail stores…”
You must check out the way-finding systems he designed for this parking garage.. It will blow my mind.
